Research Tools
Because my work deals with matters of spirituality and religion, particularly in regard to Jesus and the Christian Bible, I thought it useful to share some research and reference tools I am currently interested in and/or using.
The Missing Gospels, by Darrell Bock, Ph.D.
I just got this, and am excited to use it. Darrell Bock is one of the foremost scholars in the area of Early Christianity, especially in regard to Jesus. This should be a great tool for research into the various “Christianities” that existed in the early years of the Christian movement.
From Every People and Nation, by J. Daniel Hays
This is the best intro work I have found to a theological perspective of race in the Bible. Solid scholarship, very acessible.
Three Crucial Questions about Spiritual Warfare, by Clinton E. Arnold
If you have ever read the Bible, you know that the idea of spiritual forces beyond the natural world are described and discussed. What should we think about them? How does our life relate? This is an excellent source, well versed in the current debates in the field. The threee questions Arnold tackles are:
- What is Spiritual Warfare?
- Can Christians be Demon-Possessed?
- Are we called to engage “territorial spirits?”
Worth the read if you want to develop sound thinking in the area…
