Uh oh…?!?!

So the issue of race and ethnicity in the US may be “blowing up” real soon. How so? If you haven’t heard, the next season of the hit show Survivor will divide the teams according to race/ethnicity. If I remember correctly, the teams are divided as follows: Asians, Caucasians, African Americans, Latinos. Wow. They have quite a strategy to get some serious viewership.

Speaking of race and ethnicity, check out the following for an honest and insightful look…

Hi Yucan,
Great blog! It’ll be interesting to see how Survivor develops this season and how many stereotypes we’ll see getting played out.
Enjoyed the linked article, too!

That’s crazy … that should be interesting.

So the Asian team wins, the Black team loses, the Black team puts a White team member on Exile Island… wow wow wow. How much should we read into all this?

The season ends. An Asian (yule kwon, from San Mateo) wins.

As I think about it, I feel sorta proud that an Asian person won it. I feel proud, too, that the final four contestants were all minorities.

But, as I think about it, I think I would be really excited too if a Caucasian person won it too, especially if they demonstrated great love and character, and/or especially if they were my friend.

It does boil down to that, doesn’t it? Love, character, friendship. That’s what makes a multicultural community special.

Props to Yule, though.
